Green homes are selling faster than standard-built homes. It may be time to consider upgrading, remodeling or building new with improved energy-efficiency. Technology can improve energy efficiency in homes long term, but it is up to owners, designers, architects, and builders to decide which integrated sustainable design is best suited for a home. The financial benefits are long-term; traditional materials and methods may be less expensive initially, but over time homeowners reap the benefits of sustainable design through lower energy bills. It has been estimated that a LEED platinum-certified building can repay 70 percent of its construction cost over a 20 year cycle of energy savings.
