AIA Develops Plan to Stimulate Economy and Create Jobs in Building Sector

The AIA (American Institute of Architects) has a Rebuild and Renew Plan, which details recommendations for the allocation of funds in President-elect Obama’s economic recovery plan. The Green Part: The AIA wants full-scale retrofits to significantly reduce a building’s carbon footprint, and is calling for the federal government to provide $30 billion for energy efficiency upgrades and modernization in:
  • Federal, state and local public buildings
  • Residential, commercial, industrial and healthcare facilities
  • Green affordable housing
The AIA anticipates that appropriating these funds would result in the creation of 430,000 jobs.
Look for federal, state and local green grant programs to increase soon.
